The project comprises a full tenant improvement and renovation to an existing commercial building for a local non-profit organization, the Ability Resource Centre. The group's downtown bottle depot is being decommissioned to relocate to a new southside location in proximity to a key shopping area of Lethbridge to better serve the community. Ability Resource Centre's principal north Bottle Depot, Resource Centre and JobLinks Employment Centre will continue to operate and serve the community.
In addition to a full bottle sorting and shipping facility, the renovation program also contains staff offices, meeting spaces and a kitchen and staff room. The building program aims to improve customer experiences by educating consumer's about recycling and material processing paths that impact the environment through engaging interior displays. The facility will also employ smart technologies in the transaction process that enhance convenience and payment.
Local collaborating firms One One Ten and DeJong Architecture partnered together to deliver this project - Jeff and Spencer having known each other as friends and colleagues since early undergraduate studies at the University of Lethbridge in the late 1990's, both later becoming architects who returned to live, work and raise their families in Lethbridge.
The project began to mobilize in early April, 2019 with respected local general contractor RBG Construction Ltd. leading the construction effort.
