The project comprises a tenant improvement and interior alteration for our own studio practice located on the second floor of Post - a vibrant hub within the newly renovated historic Post Office building in downtown Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada. The project facilitates a relocation of our existing studio office from the east side of the city and is a key marker of our growth as a modest architecte practice in southern Alberta.
One One Ten's new downtown studio is located within a notable public building and original historic Post Office affronting the corner of 4th avenue and 7th street - a four storey building with an iconic century old clock tower beacon - and a significant adjoined two storey building addition to the south. A new entrance block was constructed at the north-east corner of the original history Post Office in the 1950's. In 2021, a base building renovation to the 50's era facade, street entrances and newly demised interior floors occured. The building now facilitates a community based program of workplace supports including updated lobbies, shared meeting spaces, informal meeting areas and furniture, a new lounge and roof top patio, upgraded washroom facilities and basement level work-out, bicycle storage, meeting rooms and storage spaces. This mix of shared amenities means individual tenant suites can leverage their workplaces without the encumbrances of having to individually duplicate similar workplace supports in situ of their own tenant suite. The result is an enriched workplace environment at the scale of an entire building that will grow in synergy and intensity as new tenants join the building community.
After the design and construction documentation were completed, the project began mobilizing for construction in January, 2023. The renovation was comleted by mid-May and the One One Ten team relocated prior to June, 2023.
